Welcome to my portfolio!

My name is Marah, I'm a queer, nonbinary person based in Portland, OR. When I'm invited to the table to collaborate with others, I use my skills in communication and design to bridge gaps, foster deeper understanding, and enrich all parties.

Design is a form of visual communication, and communication has always fascinated me, which is why I have a bachelor's in Communication and a variety of experiences in purposeful graphic design. Print design and creation of branding materials are where I feel most at home, especially after three years at The Integer Group fine-tuning art for point-of-sale signs and displays before we released them to printers. In that time I also realized how much I enjoy the meticulous, technical work of ensuring files intended for print are prepared correctly before handing off to color separators or other vendors. Even if my time at Integer taught me that I prefer to adapt and polish up an art director's initial creative, I still harbor a love for layout design, both for print and digital applications. I also hope to have more opportunities to engage in user experience design in my professional life, because of how much it resonates with my communication and conceptual engineering sensibilities.

I pride myself on resourcefulness, tidiness, and excellent prioritization. I correspond often and concisely with clients and coworkers to ensure everyone is on the same page during ongoing projects. Adapting suddenly to new positions and processes invigorates me. At a previous position, in the space of a month before a major sales meeting, I prepared the website to launch 11 new products, spanning 3 product lines. It exercised my ability to communicate progress with supervisors and coworkers about an extensive and expedited project. My range of experience coupled with my devotion to doing things well the first time makes me a noteworthy candidate for your employment and freelance needs.

When I'm not working, you can find me taking pictures of my cats for my family back in Michigan, as well as improving my skills in a variety of handicrafts like jewelry making, embroidery, cross-stitch, machine-sewing, constructing miniatures, or amateur carpentry for practical applications around the house. Feel free to contact me with inquiries or opportunities. Reference contacts available upon request.
